Christian Lacroix PortraitLacroix is known for his theatrical nature which is reflected in his designs. This perhaps comes from his background in theatre, and is evidenced in his work by his flamboyant use of colour and his “le pouf” gown.

Lacroix spent his childhood watching bullfights, reading and visiting museums. He studied art history at university and his first ambition as a young man was to be a museum curator. This all changed when he met Jean-Jacques Picart, whom was asscociated with several haute couture houses in the early 1970’s. Picart helped Lacroix to get his first start in the fashion world. Together they gained prominence in the 1980’s, and in 1987, Lacroix established his own couture house. Early on he specialised in women’s “ready to wear” attire. It was not long before he diversified into jewlery, handbags, sunglasses, scarves and ties, amoung other things.

Christian Lacroix BazarHis first line of floral perfumes was released in 1999, and in 2001 released Bazar. Bazar (2001), is described as refreshing masculine scent, spicy and sweet., possessing a blend of cedarwood, yuzu, elemi and lavender. Bazar for women was introduced shortly after- a sensual fragrance recommended for daytime wear.
